Gemelli Italian

From the industrial décor to the open-air Mediterranean kitchen, Gemelli Italian is one of Broadbeach’s most authentic dining experiences.

Since opening in 2013, Gemelli’s is an essential for anyone wanting to enjoy high quality Italian cuisine. The word ‘Gemelli’ translates as twins, a name which resonates with the owners. Brothers James and Alec Carney bring their rich, family traditions and extensive knowledge to this fine establishment, which has become one of the Gold Coast’s most popular restaurants.

From the first moment entering Gemelli Italian, you are met with excellent service, with a warm welcome from the Maître D’. Having a location with a view of Broadbeach Park, it’s the perfect backdrop to this dining experience. An open roof, rustic brick walls and comfortable wooden furniture mix the old with the new in this contemporary setting. Italian dining reaches it’s potential at Gemelli’s.

With a first round of drinks including a jug of Bianco Sangria (a delicious mix of St. Germain Elderflower, lychee liqueur and pinot grigio), imported beers and glasses of pinot noir and rosé, it was a perfect start to the evening at Gemelli Italian. Friendly and efficient service is an essential for any restaurant wanting to succeed, and this restaurant exceeds expectations.

A first look at the menu and the choices are endless. They are written on paper as beautifully as they are presented in front of you. For the first course, four entrees were settled upon on for the table. The dishes selected were Fiori Di Zucchine - stuffed zucchini flowers with ricotta, mozzarella di bufala, white anchovy, basil, lime & mild chilli. Mixed Funghi Arancini - with buffalo mozzarella and bianco truffle oil. Salsicce Al Forno - woodfired spicy homemade fennel pork sausages served with pane della casa. And last but not least, Pomodoro Bruschette with mozzarella di bufala, Sicilian olive oil & fresh basil.

Each dish was presented beautifully and mirrored the delightful atmosphere of the restaurant. The fresh produce radiated off the plate and tasted as good as it looked. A personal favorite were the zucchini flowers, which were some of the best I’ve ever tasted. Expectations had definitely been raised for the next course.

With an electric atmosphere and another round of drinks, the wait for the next course is virtually non-existent. The choices for second course were equally as desirable as the first course, but the decision was easy for me. Any Italian restaurant and it is essential to try their Spaghetti Marinara. Consisting of a range of fresh seafood served in al olio, the dish was succulent, tasteful and succeeded expectations. The table also ordered a Pizza Rosse Diavola with fior di latte, hot salami, chilli & basil, if you like your pizza hot & spicy this is one to order.

Another main ordered was the Rigatoni Bacio Pasta with chicken breast, mushroom, avocado, cherry tomato, a touch of cream and sugo di pomodoro. as well as Pollo Involtini served with nonno’s peas and a potato & capsicum stew. The table was in agreeance that these dishes were some of the best Italian cuisine that we have ever had. And this was before dessert.

Opting to have a traditional Espresso Martini for dessert was a wise decision on my part. It tasted as rich and decadent as it looked in the glass. The other two desserts chosen were the Vanilla Bean Pannacotta with passionfruit pulp, a smooth creamy pannacotta that left us wanting more. Then the dessert of all desserts came to the table, Nutella Bomba, a deep fried nutella pocket sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, served with gelato. These desserts capped off a delicious three course Italian feast.

Gemelli Italian

Combined with the electric atmosphere and faultless service, Gemelli’s is the go-to for impeccable Italian cuisine on the Gold Coast.
