Sitting on the banks of the Southport Yacht Club, Fellini is the Italian dining experience that needs to be eaten to be believed.

Since opening in 1996, Fellini has continued to uphold its reputation of authentic Italian cuisine and impeccable service. Owned and operated by four partners, Carlo Percuoco, Anna Cacace, head chef Richard Burt and Raffaele Di Benedetto, the restaurant combines everything from it’s modern décor to picturesque harbour view to create an exceptional venture into modern Italian cooking. With all these qualities, it’s no wonder that Fellini has continued to win countless awards over the years including the 2014 Best Italian Restaurant in Queensland and restaurant excellence awards from national food guides.

Without ever being to Fellini before, it’s reputation on the Gold Coast was enough to know that it would be a sensational meal. Having heard about excellent experiences family and friends have had there, it is no wonder why it is one of the most loved restaurants on the Gold Coast. Located inside Marina Mirage, the restaurant overlooks the Southport Yacht Club as well as a view of the Southport skyline. With a spectacular outlook, it makes the experience at Fellini even more special.

It’s always important to have impeccable service at any restaurant, and Fellini exceeds expectations. Friendly, well-mannered and excellent presentation, the wait staff are an impressive contribution to the dining experience. Starting with a glass of Prosecco and Sauvignon Blanc, we have our first glance at the menu and it is filled with tempting options. Starting with a couple of tasting plates, we chose the arancini - rice balls with peas, mozzarella and a beef and pork ragu as well as the calamari e finocchio - tender calamari served with a shaved fennel, red onion and radish salad with lemon, extra virgin olive oil and baby herbs. Filled with freshness, rich flavour and delicate texture, each dish was a brilliant start to our meal. This was certainly one of the best calamari we have experienced on the Coast.

Moving onto entrée, we settled on the carpaccio di carne - thinly sliced raw beef tenderloin topped with lemon juice, garlic infused extra virgin olive oil, button mushroom slivers, black pepper, rucola and shaved grana padano. As well as fiori di zucchini - baby zucchini flowers filled with spanner crab meat served with a san marzano tomato salad with aged balsamic, basil and extra virgin olive oil. Whenever there are zucchini flowers on a menu, we make it a must to order them. And we were not disappointed. Delectable crabmeat filled the flowers and the tomato salad was the perfect accompaniment to the entrée. The carpaccio was equally as satisfying with the beef being so tender that it fell apart at the touch of a fork. The combination of the garlic infused olive oil with the lemon juice was just exquisite.

With another glass of Sauvignon Blanc, comes another course. For mains, we were torn between dishes. Our final choices were the rigatoni granchi - short tube pasta with sautéed fresh spanner crab meat, extra virgin olive oil, a tomato sauce with a touch of chilli and basil as well as the saltimbocca di pollo - free range chicken breast filled with mozzarella and fresh sage, wrapped in san daniele prosciutto, baked and cooked with vine ripened cherry tomatoes, sweet potato and aged balsamic. Pasta and seafood were made for each other, and the rigatoni was a delicious dish. The saltimbocca di pollo was cooked to perfection and the tomatoes with the balsamic were just wonderful.

Having just enough room for dessert, we ordered the tiramisu and the tre mousse di cioccolato - trio of chocolate mousses. I have to say, the tiramisu was one of the best I have ever had and was presented beautifully. The trio of mousses was topped with candy floss and was absolutely scrumptious. A faultless end to a faultless meal. Fellini continues to impress with their impeccable service and delectable Italian cuisine.
