After visiting Melbourne late last year and getting a taste for rooftop bars, we are so happy that the trend is starting to come to the Gold Coast. 8th Ave Terrace is one of those striding ahead with the trends by opening up a gorgeous restaurant and rooftop bar in Palm Beach. A sister venue to the people who bought you Espresso Moto, just down the road.

With it's Hamptons styled, sleek interior of white walls, pops of the most beautiful blue/grey colour on the bars, copper lighting, wooden high tables and subtle nautical styled pieces such as the wicker basket lighting, it's both a fresh and stunning restaurant. As you walk in, to the right is the open kitchen filled with their chefs busily preparing food. Follow your eyes around to the bar area where the mixologist is working his magic creating beautiful cocktails for the ladies celebrating on the rooftop. Ahh that rooftop.. that's what we came here for, oh and of course the food.


Let's talk about the food and what we chose to drink on this fabulous rooftop.

The cocktail list excited us, because there were many cocktails on that list that we wanted to sample, we were spoilt for choice with this one. Going on a recommendation we had to try the Pomegranate Punch - gin, pomegranate liquor, lychee liquor, coconut water with a rose water finish. Served in a tall embossed tumbler, this delicious cocktail comes to your table with the inclusion of a spray of rose water on top from your waitperson. Another drink that we ordered was the Ramble on Sangria - Lino Ramble Rose, St Germain, Aperol, lychee, strawberry liqueur and seasonal fruits. A perfect drink for a lunch time date on the rooftop.

The menu is not overly large and we liked that, made our decisions much easier. It contained a great variety of dishes through from seafoods to poultry, to meats and vegetarian options. We proceeded to order and opt for everything to come to the table at once, we were hungry and eager to taste the food.

Promptly the food came to the table with 1/2 dozen Oysters Kilpatrick - they were grilled and looked saucy, we knew these were going to pack alot of flavour just by looking at them, and they did. Secondly the most prettiest plate of Heirloom Carrots - sauteed and served with stilton blue cheese, Currumbin Valley honey and toasted almonds, arrived at the table. The sweetness of the local honey and the saltiness of the blue cheese was the perfect combination to these delicious carrots.

The third dish was stunning, Citrus Cured Salmon - with lemon herb crumb, taro chips, caper berries, tasmanian salmon caviar served with dill cream and tequila jelly. From every angle this dish looked superb, then we tasted it, absolutely a stand-out. The salmon melted in our mouths, there is no other way to eat salmon then like this.

One of the larger dishes we ordered was the Confit Duck Leg - with heirloom carrots, brussel sprouts, peach puree, finished with mandarin and star anise jus. A perfect autumn style dish, warming to the soul but also gives you a reminder of a summer just passed with the peach puree on the base. Absolutely delicious and we would order this again.

Last but certainly not least, the next large dish we ordered was the Hong Kong Chilli Pork - cantonese style chilli pork neck, served with seared scallops, white sweet potato chips and a baby bok choy salad. From reading this dish on the menu, we did not know what to expect of it, so it was a very nice surprise when it came to the table. Tender pieces of pork lay over the bok choy salad, they were mouthwatering. The scallops were an interesting additive to the dish, but the surprising thing was the sweet potato chips. Long lengths of crispy sweet potato that added a great texture to the whole dish.

Sadly this time we didn't leave room or time for dessert as it was a quick lunch for us, but there is always next time.. right?


Overall, 8th Ave Terrace impressed us with the decor, the service, the food and the cocktails. Will there be a next time for us? Most definitely, we want to come back time and time again.
